Sheffield Doc/Fest and Crossover Labs present Interactive at This Way Up

We were honored to have Sheffield Doc/Fest and Crossover Labs join us for an evening of interactive exploration, where you could play with virtual reality on Oculus Rift headsets, join in a multiplayer big screen space adventure with Renga, and dance to DJ Dr Rebekka Kill who presented her Facebook is like Disco, Twitter is like Punk show blending music and social media. The evening inspired delegates to take exhibition to the next level, and we had a LOT of fun too.

Oculus Rift

Immerse yourself in virtual reality: we’ve selected a range of games and projects built specifically for the Rift: some scary, some fun, some moving. Explore a new technology, and new worlds. Great fun to watch people spinning round confused too…

[Renga] is a feature-length crowd game for cinema screens that mixes new technology, adventure drama and a wry sense of humor. Ambushed and left for dead in deep space, our hero must carefully marshal their resources to build a new ship, confront their nemesis and finally return home. Only this hero isn’t visible on the screen – it’s the entire audience, working collectively to control the action using 100 laser pointers directed at the screen. Turning the traditional hero’s journey on its head, Renga asks the question – what if the ultimate reward can only be grasped by many hands?

Dr Rebekka Kill: Facebook is like disco, Twitter is like punk

We couldn’t just have ANY DJ, oh no. Academic by day, DJ by night, Rebekka’s show is TEDx in style with some amazing tunes throughout. Find out more on Rebekka’s blog.
